Further A339 disruption to occur tomorrow (Thursday)

Northbound lane closure in place

MOTORISTS are set for further disruption on the A339 through Newbury tomorrow (Thursday).

Contractors have been working on West Berkshire Council's scheme to widen the road to connect a new junction with Fleming Road.

The latest part of the project will see the inside lane of the northbound carriageway closed from the River Kennet bridge between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The closure is to allow for refurbished Kennet bridge parapet rails to be installed.

The whole stretch of the A339 between Sainsbury's and Robin Hood roundabouts will remain subject to a temporary 30mph speed limit for the safety of road users and the workforce.

Previous lane closures led to traffic misery in the town.

Traffic queued back to the Sandleford link and caused gridlock in the town centre, with drivers reporting that it took them 50 minutes to cross town.
