Further accident on A34 north in fog at East/West Ilsley

Accident toll continues on dangerous stretch of road

TWO people had a lucky escape this morning (Wed) on the A34 at East Ilsley after a collision northbound in fog during the rush hour.

Drivers are advised to take care in the poor visibility due to any lingering fog, especially near downland areas.

South Central Ambulance Service sent two rapid response vehicles at 7.52am to the A34 northbound, approximately half a mile north of the East Ilsley junction.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Two pumps were called from Newbury Fire Station at 7.44am, to the incident involving three vehicles. Firefighters assisted police at the scene before departing at 8.26am.

Resulting traffic queues were severe and tailing back several miles to the M4 junction 13 intersection at Chieveley.

The notoriously dangerous stretch of road is a constant scene of accidents, including several fatal incidents in recent months and several accidents at the same spot over the last week.

The issue of safety on the A34 has triggered a Parliamentary debate, with local MPs pressing for substantial Government investment in the road.
