Further collision in mounting toll of incidents on A34 near Newbury
Woman taken to hospital after being cut out of car on its roof
A FURTHER collision on the A34 near Newbury last night (Sun) saw a woman cut out of an overturned car, before being taken to hospital.
Firefighters from Newbury Fire Station were called at 7.15pm to a two vehicle collision southbound, between Chieveley and Speen.
Firefighters cut a woman, the only occupant, free from the overturned car, a Vauxhall Corsa.
The road was closed during the incident and for about an hour.
Firefighters left the scene at approximately 8.30pm.
In March, a 21-year-old Wiltshire woman died in a fatal collision on the A34 southbound near the M4 intersection at Chieveley.
The collision involved two vehicles - an artic lorry and a Vauxhall Corsa.
The 21-year-old female driver of the car died at the scene.
At 5.10pm last Wednesday, a woman and three children were killed in an accident while travelling northbound on the A34 at East Ilsley.
A petition which was initially launched in June, and following a separate fatal A34 crash in which Gavin Roberts died, has seen a spike in signatures since Wednesday’s crash.
Newbury MP Richard Benyon has since stepped into the debate and is now calling on a full review into safety at the major trunk road.
