Further heavy rain causes canal to burst its banks and floods West Berkshire gardens





A yellow warning for rain has been in place all day for West Berkshire, and is not being lifted until 6am tomorrow morning (Weds).

Residents in Colthrop also reported severe flooding to their gardens this afternoon, with the water, flooded from the River Kennet, at times reaching a foot deep (pictured, bottom).


This morning, the Environment Agency issued a red flood warning – warning residents that flooding is expected and that Immediate action is required- for the River Kennet from Theale to Reading, including in Burghfield, Calcot, Southcote and at The Oracle shopping centre in Reading.
There is also a red flood warning in place for the River Thames at Goring and Streatley.
Staff at Streatley hotel The Swan said the Environment Agency had warned them to prepare for flooding inside the building at around 12.30pm.
It has not yet been confirmed if the hotel was affected.
Amber flood alerts – warning residents that flooding is possible and to be prepared – have also been issued for the River Kennet from Thatcham to Reading, including in Colthrop, Woolhampton, Aldermaston, and the River Pang from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook.
An amber alert also remains for the River Kennet and its tributaries from Berwick Bassett down to Newbury, including in Ramsbury, Hungerford, Denford, Kintbury and Newbury.
Another amber alert is in place for the River Thames and its tributaries from Days Lock to above Pangbourne.
The River Enborne and Foudry Brook has also been issued an amber alert for flooding, from Gore End to Aldermaston, including the Ecchinswell Brook and the Kingsclere Brook; also the Foudry Brook and its tributaries from Scotsman’s Green to Green Park including Stratfield Mortimer and Tadley on the Bishopswood Stream.
Amber flood alerts for the River Lambourn and its tributaries from Upper Lambourn down to Shaw were also issued, including Eastbury, East Garston, Welford, Easton, Boxford, Woodspeen, Bagnor, Donnington, Great Shefford on the Great Shefford Stream and Winterbourne on the Winterbourne Stream.
