Thatcham Town Cricket Club bowling for brighter future after unveiling new net system

Thatcham Town Cricket Club has celebrated the grand opening of its replacement nets.

A night of celebration was held on Friday, August 2, for the new three lane, state of the art practice nets in Brownsfield Road, just before junior practice commenced.

Mayor of Thatcham, Suzanne Adamantos, formally opened the new nets, installed by Slatter Cricket & Play in Hungerford, by delivering a perfect side arm to one of the junior players.

The nets are in lieu of compensation for the loss of existing facilities for the new flood alleviation scheme.

Chair of TTCC, Iain Cottingham, said: “Losing nearly 25 per cent of Brownsfield (two lane nets, artificial and grass wicket) is a significant loss of resource.

“However, the new three lane net system does somewhat offset this loss.

“We hope that many more cricketers will master the skill of bowling and batting using these superb facilities”.

The event was open to all players, junior members, parents, supporters and coaches.

The bar and BBQ was open as usual.

TTCC is a community amateur sports club and relies on young talent to eventually play Saturday league cricket.

It runs junior sides from Under 9 up to Under 15 and is a hive of activity on Friday evenings.
