Game, set, match for Hungerford juniors
Four trophies were hotly fought over.
Club chairman Chris Dodd said "This was a great day of junior tennis and displayed the success of our club’s long term plan to grow and nurture junior tennis in Hungerford. Our thanks go to Wilde Sports Newbury for their continued support.”
The club’s Philip Brown writes:
Under 10’s had a group stage in which Henrietta Jinizian and Ben Brown came through to play a nip and tuck final with Ben scraping home the winner with a score of 6:4.
Jack Liddell shone in the group stages and was unlucky not to make the cut after winning 7:5 against Barney Benneyworth.
The under 11’s saw last year’s winner Oliver Liddell facing Owain Wheeler in the opening match, the latter coming back from 3:1 down to win 6:4. Owain went on to take that trophy.
Toughest competition was seen in the Under15’s where the 2013 champion Chris Dyer was given a real run for his money, first with Jay Livingstone and then with Gregor Ross who pushed Chris all the way before Chris finally managed to serve out the match.
The Chairman’s Fair play award went to Barney Bennyworth.
Runners up were : Under 10: Henrietta Jinizian, under 12: Oliver Liddell, Under 15: Gregor Ross.”
