GCSE results are out today!

TODAY'S the big day for pupils awaiting their GCSE results.

Following pupils opening their A-level results last week, today sees the thousands of pupils who sat their examinations this summer discover their fate.

NewburyToday will be at school's across West Berkshire and north Hampshire to bring the latest news and reaction.

2.33pm

The Willink School in Burghfield Common saw 71 per cent of pupils gain five or more A*-C grades including English and mathematics.

Headteacher, Peter Fry, said: "This is a wonderful set of results fully deserved by a hard-working and mature year group. It is a record-breaking set of results for The Willink, just surpassing the 2014 high watermark."

Theale Green is particularly delighted that 70 per cent of its pupils achieved an A*-C grade for English and 68 per cent achieved an A*-C grade for mathematics, both considerably higher than the national average.

Headteacher Dr Sally Beeson said: "We are proud of all our students' achievements.

"Their hard work and commitment has been rewarded and these results will ensure that they are able to follow their chosen paths and continue on the road to success.

The Clere school welcomed another set of strong GCSE results this year demonstrating consistency, high achievement and excellent progress.

62 per cent of pupils achieved five or more high grade passes with over 62 per cent of pupils achieving this with English and Maths.

The Downs School in Compton is celebrating a fantastic set of results.

More than 74 per cent of students achieved A* - C including English and Mathematics and more than 82 per cent of students achieved 5 A* - C.

More than 32 per cent of total entries awarded A*/A grades and 99% of students achieving A*-G.

Top boy Will Booth , 16, from Hermitage said: "‘I’m very pleased. I expected to do well, but it’s nice to know the hard work has paid off. I’m going to go home and show off a bit to my older brothers."

Headteacher Chris Prosser said: “We are so delighted for this group of students; they have worked so hard to achieve these excellent set of results and maintained the strong tradition of excellence that we have come to expect at the Downs School.

Denefield School was delighted with the achievements of its pupils, with 60 per cent achieving A*-C grades in English and mathematics.

Among the high performers were Ewan Evans with 8A*s and 2As, and Abigail Gardner with 8A*s and 2As.

Headteacher Lucy Dawe said: ‘I am really pleased for our students who have worked so hard for these excellent results and also for their parents and teachers who have played a significant part in this success.

"The results demonstrate the effectiveness of high quality teaching coupled with strong management systems and team work.

"The students are now well prepared for the next stage of their education having tasted success through ambition, hard work and resilience.’

An impressive 74 per cent of pupils attained A* to C grades in both English Language and mathematics at the Hurst Community College.

Headteacher, Roger Jones, said pupils and staff at the Baughurst secondary school had worked exceptionally hard this year.

Park House is celebrating the best set of GCSE results in the school's history. Headteacher Derek Peaple said: "We are thrilled by this year's outstanding GCSE results.

"This superb collective achievement is the sum of every individual's commitment and progress.

"This fantastic year group thoroughly deserve their success, which reflects the hard work and positive relationships of students and staff working closely together."

Congratulations to St Gabriel's School student Megan Clark on an outstanding set of GCSE results.

Megan, from Hermitage, achieved 9A* and 3A grades.

Hungerford's John O'Gaunt School saw 65 per cent of pupils achieve A*-C grades in English and mathematics.

Sixty 60 per cent achieved 5 A*-C grades including English and maths, representing a jump of 18 per cent per cent on last year.

Headteacher Alan Henderson said: "We are absolutely thrilled with these outstanding results.

"Credit must go to our amazing students and our brilliant staff who have worked tirelessly and gone the extra mile throughout the year to produce these results."

Trinity School is proud of its 2016 cohort, with 58 per cent of all grades awarded A*-C

Two-thirds of students gained C grades or higher in English or Maths, with A*- B at 35%.

Among those mentioned in dispatches were Jessica Bentley (4A*, 4A), Brad Burton (2A*, 4A, 4B), Darcy Clarke (8A, 3B), Emma Goodwin (1A*, 8A, 2B),

Headteacher Charlotte Wilson said: "Thanks go to staff and parents who have supported the students over the course of their time in our school.

"Students will now progress onto A levels as well as vocational courses and apprenticeships.

"We wish them every success in the next steps of their education and are looking forward to continuing our work with those who are moving into Sixth Form."

A GOLD star to Kennet school, in Thatcham, who were first among the district's school's to announce GCSE results this morning (Thursday).

A total 72 per cent of pupils obtained five A* to C grades including maths and English.

A total 608 of all the grades proved to be A* and A (23 per cent).

"The school is hugely proud of this year group and we look forward to seeing the vast majority of pupils move into our sixth form, where yet greater opportunities await them," said headteacher, Paul Dick.

There were tears of joy at St Bartholomew's School in Newbury as pupils celebrated an excellent set of GCSE results.

In total, 85 per cent of students got A* to C grades, with 41 per cent at A* and A.
