A flock of geese flew into power cables causing a fire and power cut for 544 homes last night (Thurs)
MORE than 500 homes in the Great Shefford area lost power last night (Thursday) after a flock of geese brought down an electricity cable.
At about 8pm, 544 homes lost their power after the geese flew into the power cable in a field off the A338 Wantage Road.
The cable set fire to small piece of grass and crews from Newbury and Hungerford attended to put out the blaze.
Scottish and Southern Energy isolated the cable and power was restored to most the homes by just before 9pm with the rest being restored by 1.15am.
