Get walking to discovery Newbury's history
Series of events planned for August
THE public will be invited to take a walk through Newbury’s history in a series of guided excursions in and around the town next month.
Led by a selection of local historians, the walks will take place throughout August and will each feature a different area of the town’s history.
Friday, August 5, will focus on the artworks and architectural highlights of the town centre.
Sunday, August 21, will take you on a walk along Northbrook Street to the Clock Tower, to talk about Newbury during the coaching era, and the Speenhamland System.
While on Monday, August 29, there will be a walk taking in the Market Place, Newbury Wharf, Victoria Park, Newbury Lock, Northcroft Lane and the south of Northbrook Street with its alleyways, showing Newbury’s history from the to the modern day.
Tickets can be purchased from the Corn Exchange costing £5 for adults, £4 for concessions with under-16s going free.
