A TEAM of real life ghostbusters are planning to investigate the Hungerford Arcade apparation.

Last week, the Hungerford edition of the Newbury Weekly News reported how staff were spooked by a ghostly figure on CCTV.

However, when they investigated by playing back CCTV security film, 15 minutes had apparently been blanked out – but only from the camera that covered that particular spot.

Now Emma Thorn and her team, West Berkshire-based UK Ghost Hunting, will use specialised electronic equipment to try to find answers.

Miss Thorn, a 24-year-old customer services representative from Newbury, said: “On the night we will look round the building and make sure there are not any logical explanations for the ghostly figure such as shadows on the wall, reflections and so on.

“We will then use cameras set up in active area points with night vision and pressure alarm pads. Also, the B-PSB7 Spirit Box is a great compact tool for attempting communication with paranormal entities. It uses radio frequency sweeps to generate white noise which, theories suggest, give some entities the energy they need to be heard. When this occurs you will sometimes hear voices or sounds coming through the static in an attempt to communicate.”

The group comprises Miss Thorn, Steve Smith, 30, Clare Durrant, 40, and 29-year-old Martin Wiggall.

Arcade manager Rita Kibble, who saw the apparation with co-owner Hazel Browne, said this week: “The story in the paper really got everyone talking. Some people had their own stories to tell, too. It will be very interesting to see what a team of real ghostbusters will make of it all.”

UK Ghost Hunting was formed late last year through a private paranormal investigations team called The Insomnia Paranormal Society.

The team has already visited haunted locations, including prisons, bunkers and ancient buildings.

Miss Thorn said: “I and the team can’t wait to find out what’s going on in the arcade.”
