Girls open the show ahead of England Six Nations game
FOUR girls from Newbury Rugby Club will be stepping out onto the hallowed turf at Twickenham ahead of England’s Six Nations clash with Ireland today (Sat).
Phoebe Asquith-Beard, 11, Victoria Osborn, 12, Kayleigh Wheeler, 11, and Sophie Thornton-Allen,10, who all play for Newbury U-13 girls, will take part in a game of touch rugby in front of almost 90,000 spectators before the big match kicks off.
The girls will also perform the guard of honour prior to kick off before watching both the men’s and women’s games.
Manger of the Newbury U-13 team, Maria Osborn, said: “The girls are thrilled - absolutely over the moon. To play at Twickenham will be amazing for them.
They will also be provided with lunch and will have the opportunity to visit the iconic museum inside the stadium.
Teams from Teddington, Grasshoppers, Reading, Gosford All Blacks and Walingford will also take part in the ‘curtain raiser’ before the men’s game.
