The former Team GB sprinter will cut the ribbon at 10am to celebrate the Newbury centre’s £4.6m transformation.

A host of free activities will take place at the fun day, which runs fom 9am to 2pm and includes group cycling classes, a bouncy castle, pickleball, badminton, soft play and table tennis.

Gym challenges with Harry will also be on offer for families and fitness fans.

There will be a number of opportunities for young fans to meet and greet Harry too and grab those sought-after selfies and autographs.

Harry won medals at each of the past three Commonwealth Games, including gold at Birmingham 2022 and Gold Coast 2018.

He is also a three-times gold medallist at the European Championships and has appeared on Celebrity MasterChef and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

There will also be studio tours, pool inflatable sessions, lido swims and music from Kennet Radio on the day, as well as a Newbury fencing demonstration.

Activities at the event are free, but organisers are asking for charity donation when booking to Northcroft Leisure Centre operator Everyone Active’s charity partner, Breast Cancer Now.

All activities are bookable via the Everyone Active app or by calling the centre on 01635 31199.

Everyone Active contract manager Richard May said: “We’re very excited to be hosting this fantastic Family Fun Day full of activities for our local community, and Harry’s involvement will be a brilliant addition to the celebrations.

“We want to show as many people as possible the state-of-the-art facilities on their doorstep, which have something for everyone, no matter your age, interests or ability. We would encourage people to book activities as soon as possible to secure their place on the day.”

Nigel Foot (Lib Dem, Newbury Clay Hill), West Berkshire Council’s executive member for culture, leisure, sport and countryside, said, “Northcroft Leisure Centre’s transformation marks a fantastic milestone for our community, providing first-class facilities that will inspire people of all ages to lead active and healthy lives.

“Having a sporting legend like Harry Aikines-Aryeetey here to celebrate with us makes this event even more special.

“We hope his presence and the brilliant new amenities will encourage everyone to chase and achieve their own fitness goals.”

Upgrades at the facility include an extended 80-station gym with state-of-the-art equipment, a dedicated cycle studio and an additional exercise studio which will enable expanded group exercise programmes.

A new soft play area, revamped reception, refurbished changing facilities and new modern café are also now available to the community following the works.

The redevelopment followed the £5m refurbishment to the outdoor Lido at Northcroft Leisure Centre in 2023.
