Art Without Borders opens at Living Art Hungerford
A NEW show is open at Living Art, Hungerford. After October’s gallery launch, featuring works by internationally renowned artists Christopher ‘Luigi’ Veggetti Kanku and Matthew Broussard, alongside home-grown artists JK Brown and musician Pete Doherty, Living Art is mounting its first Christmas show: Art Without Borders.
The gallery aims to bring together fresh and ground-breaking global artists and this new show features new works from returning artists Christopher Luigi Veggetti and JK Brown, while introducing Sara Issakharian, John William Codling and Gabriela Bodin – all of whom will be making their UK debut.
The gallery’s co-owner Justin Cook has produced an exhibition featuring artists from diverse parts of the world: the US (John William Codling), Iran (Sara Issakharian), Zaire/Italy (Christopher ‘Luigi’ Veggetti Kanku), Romania/Italy (Gabriela Bodin) and Britain (JK Brown). These are all artists whose diverse cultural heritage and life experiences have defined their work, adding another layer to their talent. To have them all side by side as part of Art Without Borders is both brazen and alluring. At a time when conflict and the building of borders dominates the headlines, it is quite moving to experience such artists coming together to express a very human and universal theme, that art has no borders,” says Justin.
“I have organically connected with each of these global artists while on my travels, in a very personal and emotional way. As I put together this new show it became evident to me that combined they create a strong theme. Codling and Issakharian have both sought to heal through their art after great loss due to war and personal tragedy, while Luigi and Bodin have migrated to new countries and married their cultural roots to fresh landscapes and horizons. Each artist’s work is a gateway to their stories, their journeys, their cultures and their souls. However distinctive they each are, unanimously they express themes of redemption, hope and true authenticity, no matter the odds. Art Without Borders is a logical title for the show and its message should resonate strongly with anyone who worries about the disconnect, the intolerance and the violence in our world today.”
