Glowing Ofsted for Tadley after school/holiday club

Across the board sweep of outstanding markings

A TADLEY after-school and holiday club has been celebrating after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

The KOOSA Kids Holiday and After School Club, at Tadley Primary School, The Green, received an overall outstanding rating in the report, following an Ofsted inspection on August 9.

Effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment and personal development, behaviour and welfare were all marked outstanding in the report about the club, which has 47 children enrolled, aged from four to eight.

Key findings included that the club was highly responsive to parent evaluations and recommendations, which led to the improvement of the quality of activities for children.

Parents received quality information about the club, managed by KOOSA Kids Ltd.

The club is open each school day from school finish time until 6pm, and it also runs a holiday club from 8.15am to 6pm for part, or all, of each school holiday.

The two clubs draw on a team of 11 staff, seven of whom hold relevant qualifications.

Inspectors found safeguarding of the children to be effective.

“The provider has continually improved policies and procedures to underpin every area of staff practice and children’s welfare,” stated inspectors in the report.

“All staff know and implement these to a very high standard.

“The supervisor of the holiday scheme is exceptionally skilled and an inspiration to his staff and to children of all ages.”

Inspectors also noted the provider ensured staff were well qualified and regularly updated first-aid and child protection training, investing considerable time and resources into the recruitment, training and induction of new staff.

The quality of teaching section of the report said: “Staff are extremely skilled at devising exciting activities, such as superheroes or waterplay, and then adding a new dimension to them.”

Staff also helped children think in advance how they would accomplish new challenges.

Children settled in quickly and flourished and staff frequently praised, encouraged and strengthened children’s self-esteem and confidence.

Staff also ensured children benefited from extensive opportunities to learn new skills and kept safe when they play outdoors, for example moving hoops, kicking balls and throwing at targets in safe spaces.

Children’s sense of pride in being one of a team and being willing to have a go was encouraged.

The report stated that children’s behaviour was “exemplary for their ages” and staff were excellent role models.

Children felt safe, secure and confident at the club, were extremely willing to embrace new challenges and persist when things became tough, while exploring rich and interesting environments and mixing with children of different ages.

The report did not list any previous Ofsted inspection at the club, or make any recommendations for improvement.
