Goddards get together from across Europe

Anyone with the surname or lineage of Goddard is invited to go along to the annual general meeting on May 19 of the Goddard Association of Europe, which was founded in 1985 to provide an international link for all Goddards and to organise research into their heritage under the motto ‘Gens inter Gentes’ – a family among nations.
It currently has more than 350 members worldwide.
The name of Goddard stems from the Norman ‘Godhard’ which is derived from the Germanic ‘gõd’, meaning good and hard, representing hardiness, bravery or strength, according to Brian Goddard, of Newbury.
The event, held at Brimpton village hall and starting at 2pm, will also feature a talk from local historian John Trigg, who will discuss the Goddard connections in West Berkshire.
