Aldermaston and Wasing Show returns in September with duck derby, dog show and horticultural show - raising money for West Berks Foodbank
The Aldermaston and Wasing Show returns to The Old Mill on Sunday, September 1, with organisers promising an afternoon of fun and games, and the plastic animals.
The duck derby sees £40 paid to the winners of heats held across the afternoon, with the final offering prizes of £250, £150 and £75 for the first three ducks home.
Each of the 100 ducks will have a number on its rear.
These are then thrown into the water between the mill pond and the bridge with the first 10 ducks to cross the line to go through to the final.
For more sedate competitors, the annual horticultural show will be held, with prizes for the best home-grown vegetables and fruits, cookery, cakes, floral displays and photography.
There are a number of categories for children to try.
Among the new attractions will be a pitches for craft stalls, rather than being placed in the produce marquee.
A number of these will be available for voluntary groups to use.
A dog show, a beer tent, cream teas and a barbecue add to the fun, and there will be stalls offering games such as tombolas and a raffle.
The event will raise funds for the West Berks Foodbank, to help its work providing emergency food parcels to people in need, and Daisy’s Dream, which supports children and young people across Berkshire who are facing or dealing with bereavement.
