Golden moment for Thatcham gymnast
Loui Gardiner, of Longbridge Road, who belongs to Basingstoke Gymnastic Club, was selected along with a fellow tumbler from Birmingham to represent their age group as part of the Team GB gymnastics tumbling team.
His father, Simon Gardiner, said that watching his son pick up the gold medal was a very emotional moment.
He said: “We are very proud because he is very much a team player. He is very much proud to [compete] for team GB but as a father you are very proud to see him up there winning.”
The other age groups also brought a raft of medals for the British team, with five gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
The event in Odense included competitors from 22 countries, with many Olympic medallists taking part in the run-up to the world championships in Bulgaria next month.
