Newbury & Crookham Golf Club donates whopping figure to two charities

Newbury & Crookham Golf Club has donated an impressive sum to two worthy causes.

Club members donated £13,700 to Alzheimer’s Research UK and Home-Start West Berkshire, based at Broadway House in Newbury, from funds raised through events it holds throughout the year.

Club captains Roger Harman and Alison Blackmore presented cheques to representatives from both charities on Thursday, April 4 – each getting £6,850.

Club manager Gareth Williams said: “The captains chose the charities themselves.

“Through the year, we do all sorts of different events, including charity golf days. Ladies bake cakes and prepare raffles.”

Mr Williams also spoke about another charitable event held on Sunday, April 14.

Members paid £2 to guess how far the captain could hit with an old wooden club from the tee line.

The closest guess won a bottle of Champagne.

All proceeds went to charity.
