Golf clubs warned to remove trophies
There have been five thefts from clubs across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire this month, including two from West Berkshire.
The first reported case was in Streatley where thieves smashed their way into Goring and Streatley golf club at about 10.40pm on Monday 2.
The alarm sounded but the offenders smashed their way into the cabinet and made off with about 100 trophies.
It is believed that a 4x4 may have been used but the make and colour is unknown.
This incident was followed by a break-in at the West Berkshire Golf Club in Chaddleworth where trophies were stolen on the night of September 5.
Other thefts have occurred in Ascot, Slough and Datchet.
Investigating officer Det Sgt Iain Kane said: “Our advice to golf clubs across the area would be to remove high value trophies from display cabinets and ensure they are safely secured.
“We have had a number of break-ins across the Thames Valley area with thieves targeting trophies for their metal content.
“If you were in any of the areas where these break-ins have happened and saw any suspicious people or vehicles, then please come forward as you may have important information for our inquiry.”
Anyone with information who has not yet come forward is asked to contact Det Sgt Kane on the non-emergency number 101.
