Swift’s group operations director Michael Spence said: “As local businessmen, we are very aware of our commercial responsibility.

“As keen golfers, we knew the best way to raise vital funds would be to hold a charity golf match.

“Newbury Soup Kitchen was an obvious choice for us to support with the fantastic work they do within West Berkshire.

“We are over the moon with the response from local businesses that kindly offered to either sponsor a hole, donated money or took part on the day

“It is a huge amount of money that I know is so gratefully received.”

Newbury Soup Kitchen CEO Meryl Praill was delighted with the donations and thanked all of those involved in the golf day.

She said: “This generous donation from Michael and all the local companies who supported the event will allow us to continue providing our essential services, offering a helping hand to those in need.

“Today, the importance of aiding those isolated by poverty, mental health challenges and addiction cannot be overstated.

“By providing a home, security, safety, and kindness, we strive to help individuals reintegrate into society and break the cycle of hardship.

“Together, we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need and build a more compassionate and supportive community for everyone.”
