‘Good’ Ofsted rating for Prior’s Court charity homes for young people with autism

A charity’s homes for young autistic people have again been awarded a ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted care inspectors.

Ofsted inspectors praised the dedicated leadership and the overall experiences of young autistic people during its 13th inspection at Hermitage-based charity Prior’s Court, held over three days in December.

As well as its education provision, the charity also provides 12 residential homes for 67 pupils up to the age of 19.

Extracts of the report read that “children enjoy a range of activities and experiences onsite and away from the home” and “benefit from a multi-disciplinary…that provide an integrated approach to meet their complex needs.”

Registered manager and young people’s care lead Lisa Pothecary said in response to the grading: “This report is a wonderful endorsement of the incredible compassion, dedication and knowledge staff at Prior’s Court demonstrate every day in support of the young people here.

“The efforts made by staff to support young people to lead happier, healthier, more independent lives shines through the report and I cannot describe how proud that makes me feel of our teams.”

Children also enjoy activities such as reptile encounters, a foam pit and reindeers at Christmas.

To continue its success, the report recommended staff continue to provide a welcoming environment, including creating a homely environment in communal areas and replacing items damaged through wear and tear.

The Ofsted Education rating for Prior’s Court School remains ‘Outstanding’.

The charity’s four young adult provision homes for young autistic people aged 19 to 25, each registered separately with the CQC, are all rated as ‘Good.’
