'Good’ Ofsted report for Beedon Primary

The school achieved an overall rating of 'good' but still has improvements to make

BEEDON Primary School has maintained its ‘good' Ofsted rating after an inspection last month.

The Stanmore Road school, which is one of the smallest in the district with only 43 children, was inspected on November 28 and 29.

The school's last inspection was two years ago when it received a rating of ‘good' which it has maintained with outstanding elements, such as the extent to which pupils feel safe and the extent to which pupils adopt healthy lifestyles.

However, the school's overall effectiveness of the early years foundation stage has fallen from ‘good' to satisfactory.

Ofsted makes three recommendations for improvements: to raise the early years foundation stage achievement to at least good by July 2012, to raise the proportion of pupils attaining higher levels in writing in year 6 by July 2012 and to strengthen direct teaching of reading in reception and year one.

The report praises the school's student council and sporting opportunities, adding: “Pupils enjoy learning and develop the will to achieve because they feel extremely safe, lessons are interesting and excellent relationships provide a very positive framework for learning.”

Headteacher Alison O'Halloran: “We are absolutely delighted to have received such a marvellous report.”
