Goring collision "Utter carnage"

Five injured, one in life-threatening condition

One person was air-lifted to hospital last night (Friday), in a life-threatening condition, and four others taken to hospital, after a serious Goring collision described as "utter carnage."

Fire fighters were called at 8pm to a two-car collision in Goring Heath Road, including crews from Goring and Reading and a rescue appliance from Didcot.

On arrival firefighters, who described the scene as "Utter Carnage," found three people, some of whom were unconscious, being treated by several doctors and paramedics at the scene.

A further two people were trapped and firefighters spent an hour using cutting equipment to remove part of a car roof.

South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) spokeswoman, Catherine Morrow, said extensive emergency services called at 8.01pm to the scene, and to assess five patients, included a Thames Valley Police (TVP) helicopter, four ambulance crews, two ambulance officers, a rapid response vehicle, basics doctor and enhanced care response unit.

One person was flown, in the police helicopter, in a life-threatening condition, to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

Two people were taken by road to the John Radcliffe Hospital and a further two people to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, all with non-life threatening injuries, according to the ambulance service.

The road was closed for around four hours and firefighters left the scene at 10pm.
