Grants awarded to two West Berkshire charities in racecourse fund





Set up by The Racecourse Newbury and David Wilson Homes as the two embarked on the 1,500-home redevelopment of the racecourse, there were more than 50 applications.
The winners were announced last Monday.
Thatcham-based sports group, Thames Valley Kings wheelchair basketball club, scooped the largest amount of £2,000 to help fund new sports wheelchairs for members who have outgrown their current ones.
The Community Youth Project was also awarded £1,000 towards a summer holiday scheme for children and young people in the Greenham area.
The third and final amount of £250 was received by Reading-based charity The Engine Shed, a monthly train club for children with autism.
Other grants from the fund, which totals £10,000, will be awarded later this year.
