Green light for new skate park in Burghfield Common as funds come in

Burghfield Parish Council says it has secured funding to build a new skate park, and work will start later this month.

In the summer, the council received permission to create the facility at Hollybush Lane in Burghfield Common.

The existing skatepark in the northeast corner of the Old Recreation Ground would be demolished and replaced with a newer site which is suitable for all abilities.

It will be built from concrete and reinforced steel, with painted mild steel round coping used throughout the park.

Pedestrian access will continue via an asphalt path from Hollybush Lane.

Specialist designers prepared designs based on multiple rounds of public consultation and councillors sought £250,000 worth of funding, including £50,000 in match funding from Greenham Trust, and £4,000 from the Englefield Charitable Trust.

The parish council thanked people for their support.

In a post on its website, they wrote: “We are thrilled to announce that Burghfield Parish Council has successfully secured the necessary funds for the much-anticipated replacement Skate Park.

“Following consultation with the community, we’re pleased to confirm that all the key features requested have been incorporated into the design.

“The designers have come up with a unique and dynamic layout that will offer something for skaters of all levels.

“Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, the new Skate Park will provide the perfect place to hone your skills and enjoy some outdoor fun.”

A celebratory open day is planned when the build is complete.
