Steve represents Speenhamland Ward in Newbury, and is a member of the Speen Community Cafe committee and a trustee of Eight Bells for Mental Health.

He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Winchester, and works for a renewable energy co-operative. Carolyne represents Ridgeway Ward, chairs the West Berkshire Council Scrutiny Commission, and has a background in public relations, journalism and teaching.

"I'm humbled and excited to take on this challenge," said Steve. "As the Green Party candidate for Newbury, I offer a bold, progressive vision for our community. We deserve an MP who tackles the climate crisis head-on, supports working families, and builds a sustainable future for all."

Carolyne said, "It's time for a fresh start after nearly 14 years of Conservative government. It isn't clear what Labour stands for anymore. The Greens' vision and values are clear. We are focused on securing a sustainable and just future for all: protecting public services including the NHS, ending poverty, and tackling the climate emergency".

Steve and Carolyne have supported their communities through the Covid pandemic and cost-of-living crisis. Steve was instrumental in the creation of local community cafes and warm spaces in the autumn of 2022, and has been a vocal campaigner around homelessness and mental health.

Carolyne was re-elected to West Berkshire Council in May 2023 with an increased majority, and then became chairman of the Scrutiny Commission, responsible for reviewing the decisions, policies and services of West Berkshire Council.
