Greenham Business Park textile mural gets £200 boost

Festival of Britain mural restoration underway

A HUGE textile mural made for the Festival of Britain and currently housed at Greenham Business Park, has received a £200 boost to its funds.

The director of the National Needlework Archive, Linda Connell, was presented with a £200 cheque from St John’s WI Woking, to help with the preservation of the hanging at The Old Chapel Textile Centre.

The textile was made for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and work on its repair and cleaning is now in its fifth year.

“While we rely mainly on funds from the visiting public, we are always extremely grateful to receive such a lovely gift,” said Ms Connell

The funds were raised at a quiz night organised to help this textile heritage charity.

The mural is open to public viewing and details can be found online at www.nationalneedleworkarchive.org.uk
