Greenham children's author's first book published

Debbie Kelly, aged 41, recently signed copies and read from her new book, Alonzo and Molly the Mermaid, at Waterstone’s Northbrook Street branch.
Based on the character Alonzo the chicken, the book, was inspired two years ago by her nephew William, now aged nine.
“He said he wanted a story and said: ’I would like you to make one up for me Auntie Debbie.' So I told him a story about King Fox in Foxyland who kidnapped all the chickens and the character Alonzo the chicken was developed from that.”
About 33 copies of the dyslexic-friendly books were recently (Sun Jan 27) sold at Waterstone’s, and copies were donated to Newbury Library and The Willows primary school, Greenham, and junior school pupils at St Gabriels, Sandleford Priory.
The author, who works full time as a store manager for Boots in Cowley, Oxford, and previously managed Boots’ Northbrook Street branch, is to talk to primary school pupils about her book at St Finians, Cold Ash, and The Willows.
