Greenham Common Trust divvies up £137,000 in latest grant round
Fond farewell to committee chairman of 18 years
NEWBURY’s popular YMCA Waterside café and a local cricket club were among more than 70 organisation to get a share of the £137,000 divvied up in the latest round of grants by Greenham Common Trust.
Last month’s meeting of the trust’s distribution committee – which considers applications twice a year – awarded £137,000 to 71 of a total 140 applications.
The committee also used the occasion to say farewell to committee chairman, Glenn Clarkson, who was stepping down after 18 years.
Mr Clarkson said he had thoroughly enjoyed his time on the committee.
“I have been particularly struck by the work of the various Scout and Guide troops, as well as the huge amount of voluntary work that is done selflessly in a wide variety of activities in the community,” he said.
“Usually this is done with very little funding, and it has been a pleasure to see how the trust’s grants have been able to help them.”
Falkland Cricket Club received £4,825 towards access for the disabled and Newbury YMCA received £6,500, after submitting two applications for café facilities at both the Waterside Youth Centre in Newbury and the Friday evening Clayhill Youth Café, at the Riverside Community Centre, Rosemoor Gardens, Clayhill.
Theale Village Community Association received £1,082 towards the village fete and carnival and a total of £8,000 was also granted towards a total cost of £17,120 for Newbury and District Hackspace, which offers a community workshop for people to explore their technical, scientific and creative skills.
The deadline for the next round of grants is September 16, with applications being considered in October.
