Greenham couple ask "who took wreath from our son's grave?"

A GREENHAM couple have been left baffled after a wreath that went missing from their son's grave last month reappeared at the grave last Wednesday evening.

Phil and Vera Barnett (pictured), of New Road, Greenham, placed the wreath on their son's grave at St Mary's Church, Greenham, on December 18, only for it to go missing a few days later.

Mr Barnett, a Newbury town and Greenham parish councillor, presumed the wreath had been stolen but last Wednesday evening it mysteriously reappeared at his son Adrian's grave.

The councillor claims that other families also had wreaths taken from graves but none have wished to speak to NewburyToday.co.uk

“To my wife's amazement ours wasn't the only wreath that had disappeared, a number of other

people had flowers and wreaths stolen,” he said. “There's a lot of people deeply shocked by this whole affair. You wouldn't think people would stoop so low.

“Most of the graves have a floral display at Christmas because it's the time of year that relatives like to pay their respects to loved-ones.”

Commenting on the wreaths reappearance last Wednesday evening, he added: “Whether someone has felt guilty about taking the wreath and returned it I don't know but it's very strange.”

The Rev John Clarke, of St Mary's Church, and Thames Valley Police said no thefts at the church had been reported.
