According to Bob Mitchell, watch manager of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one pump from Newbury was called at 4am to the speed camera situated half way up the hill on Greenham Road.
“Someone had drilled through the case and put accelerant inside, so it was burning inside the case,” said Mr Mitchell.
Firefighters used a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to put out the fire and left the scene after three quarters of an hour.
Police were also at the scene and were investigating the incident, according to the fire service.
