Greenham Trust grants support cancer care in West Berkshire and North Hampshire
Greenham Trust has awarded two substantial grants to improve cancer care in West Berkshire and North Hampshire.
The trust awarded £500,000 to the Ark Cancer Charity for a refurbishment of the chemotherapy unit at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
And the Pelican Cancer Foundation has also received £50,000 towards the cost of educational courses designed to support surgeons treating colorectal cancer in West Berkshire and North Hampshire.
The refurbishment of the chemotherapy building – to be known as the Greenham Trust wing – will enable the charity to complement the services it provides cancer patients from Basingstoke and the wider local area in its wellbeing centre.
Charity trustee Myrddin Rees said: “We are delighted Greenham Trust has provided us with this incredibly generous matched funding, further bolstering the amazing fundraising efforts of our loyal supporters.
“The allocated funds will be used to convert and uplift the Rainbow Chemotherapy Unit into a five-star facility that will enhance the experience of our cancer patients.”
Mr Rees thanked the trust for its contribution to this facility, which he says will support more 50,000 patients over the next decade.
The Pelican Cancer Foundation is also benefitting from the trust’s support by delivering courses to medical professionals in Basingstoke from June and until March next year, which will help patients with bowel cancer and its associated secondary liver disease to have a better chance of living well for longer.
Chair of trustees Mary Edwards said: “We are immensely grateful for the generous award we have received from the Greenham Trust.
“Over the past 30 years, Pelican has pioneered ground-breaking work in this field, which has changed clinical practice across the world and we are determined to continue in our goal to improve the care and treatment of patients with bowel cancer.”
Greenham Trust chief executive Chris Boulton said: “We are delighted to award these two substantial grants to support and enhance cancer care in our community.
“This will help ensure patients receive the highest standard of care in a comfortable and healing environment, as well as improve outcomes for those being treated.
“These grants exemplify our ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”
