Guard of honour staged for former ambulance employee
Around 27 SCAS employees and eight firefighters took part in the guard of honour for Andrew Evans, who died when the car he was a passenger in was involved in a collision with a another car and a refuse truck in Woodcote on September 11.
The procession stopped briefly outside the fire and ambulance stations to allow those standing guard to pay their respects, before travelling to St Andrew’s Church, Boxford, for the funeral service.
A number of passing vehicles beeped their horns as a mark of respect as they passed.
Mr Evans, who had worked for SCAS for 20 years, initially as a patient transport care assistant and later as an emergency care assistant, was aged 56 when he died.
Watch manager for white watch, who took part in the guard of honour, Phil Knight, said: “All emergency services pay respects to their colleagues, which ever service it is.
“We felt obliged to do that today to pay respects to a dedicated member of the emergency service team.
“We send our condolences to his family and colleagues.”
