The 34-year-old, of Freeman Court, off West Street in Newbury, denied assaulting Amy Cox by beating her in Newbury, on June 13 last year.

Berridge also pleaded not guilty to two charges of causing criminal damage to Ms Cox’s property on the same occasion, involving plant pots, ornaments and a Ring doorbell.

Finally, he denied making a threatening telephone call to Ms Cox on June 15 last year for the purpose of her causing distress or anxiety.

However, Berridge was convicted of all the above offences following a trial.

District judge Samuel Goozee made him subject to an 18-month community order with a requirement that he complete 100 hours of unpaid community work.

In addition, he was ordered to pay £400 costs and £100 compensation to Ms Cox in lieu of an otherwise statutory victim services surcharge.

Finally, Berridge was made subject to a six-month order forbidding him to attend a specified address in Newbury.
