Gymnasts compete to qualify in county finals
Pupils in West Berkshire are today (Thursday) competing in the Key Steps Gymnastics Competition
PUPILS from local schools taking part in a gymnastics competition in Tilehurst today (Thursday) are hoping to qualify for the county finals.
The West Berkshire School Sport Partnership will host its second annual Key Steps Gymnastics Competition for local primary schools.
More than 150 pupils from school Years 3 to 6 are due to take part in the event, split into two categories for school and club based gymnasts.
Each gymnast will be demonstrating their skills through floor, vault and body management routines, and hoping to qualify for the Berkshire county finals on March 9.
The Key Steps Gymnastics programme has been developed by British Gymnastics - the official governing body for gymnastics within the UK - and provides a platform for primary school aged children to experience core gymnastic disciplines and develop their all round motor control and coordination.
“Schools in West Berkshire have benefited in over the past couple of years from a professional gymnastics coach, funded through the schools sport partnership,” said competition manager for Berkshire West, Tom Blindell.
