HADCAF: here we go...





The 2013 Festival takes place from June 28 to July 21, launching with Oliver Reed: Wild Thing, a swaggering performance by Rob Crouch as the legendary hell-raiser.
There is more theatre from Guy Masterson, whose show The Half takes audiences into the mind of an actor faced with the opening night of Hamlet which he is performing solo, uncut - all four and a half hours of it.
Rebecca Vaughan returns with her new show, Female Gothic, which explores tales of the macabre and which received outstanding reviews at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
The superb actor and pianist Michael Lunts presents a potted history of the comedy song in his new musical entertainment, Tickling the Ivories.
Other highlights include comedian Luisa Omielan’s outrageously funny What Would Beyoncé Do?; the world premiere of the Ruby Dolls’ cabaret show, Rubies in the Smoke; an ambitious performance of Thomas Tallis’s 40-part motet, Spem in Alium, among other choral works performed by the Enborne Consort and Friends; the film of The Royal Ballet’s acclaimed 2011 production of Alice in Wonderland; and Ken Loach’s fascinating documentary, The Spirit of ’45, a unique picture of post-war Britain at time of huge social and political change.
Music lovers are well catered for, with piano recitals by Mami Shikimori and Kausikan Rajeshkumar; a jazz concert by up-and-coming young band The Fresh Dixie Project; a salsa evening with the Luis Lema Trio; folk music from Wiltshire’s Bob and Gill Berry; and performances by the Kennet Accordion Orchestra, Phoenix Brass, Kennet Opera, Newbury Symphony Orchestra and Hungerford Town Band.
There are talks and workshops and the ever popular Rock Academy with special guest Steve White, Paul Weller’s drummer.
There are farm and garden visits and informative guided walks; for youngsters there are martial arts classes and a puppet show.
There is a major exhibition of the work of 20 local artists presented in a domestic and garden setting in Chilton Foliat.
The annual Art, Craft and Photography Exhibition takes place in the Corn Exchange on July 20 and 21, and anyone wishing to display their work should contact Kath Nurse on (01488) 657525 or email kath.nurse@virgin.net Programmes and tickets are available from the beginning of June from Newbury Building Society (Hungerford branch).
