Hairy efforts for Movember
Newbury teachers, sports coaches and Beenham villagers take up Movember challenge
TEACHERS at St Bartholomew's school, staff at Greenacre Leisure Centre, and Beenham villagers have joined the ‘Mo-Bros,' after growing moustaches, to raise charity funds for men's health concerns.
Seven teachers at St Barthlolomew's - known as the Hart Handlebar Club, started sprouting moustaches for Movember - a national campaign during November, which aims to raise funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
The hirsute efforts of the teachers - Peter Deam, Dualta Carolan, Mike Hart, David Bateman, David Gibbons, David McGall and Mike Brennan - caused a few giggles:
“Pupils find it funny and are laughing at the start of lessons,” said drama teacher, Peter Deam, adding they had raised around £500.
Also ‘sporting' moustaches, were five sports coaches and managers at Greenacre Leisure Centre, in Greenham, including: Adam Chadwick (head tennis coach), Simon Wooldridge, (studio co-ordinator/personal trainer), Marcus Maslin, (duty manager/personal trainer), Ollie Fry (assistant head tennis coach) and Andy Snape, (maintenance manager).
The Greenacre ‘Mo-Bros' - who preferred to let the picture (above) do the talking - have so far raised £500 for the cause.
Beenham villagers also cycled laps of the village to boost funds, after about 50 villagers covered a total 790 miles, raising £1,800, and including Wash Common resident Brian Grace, who raised an individual amount of £400, after also painting his moustache red, white and blue, for a dare.
