Half term events in Thatcham and Newbury





Toddlers and their parents can trek down to the centre on February 17 for Nature Tots, where pre-school explorers can have fun in natural surroundings with activities including bug-hunting, mud-painting and mask-making.
However, you must book in advance for the event, which runs between 9.30am and 11.30am and a donation of £4 is required. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Wildlife warriors are also being sought for hands on experience with wildlife conservation on Wednesday the 18th. The team rangers will be able to cut down small trees and scrub and clear paths cuttings. Book for the free event, which runs from 10am until 2pm.
Watch out on Thursday as crocodiles of the world will be at the centre between 10am and 11am.
Crocodiles of the World is a conservation and education zoo. Its aim is to inform and educate adults, children and infants about animals and conservation, there will be live animals and interactive experiences including crocodiles, alligators and caimans. Appropriate for all ages, people are asked to book early as this event is every popular, £4.50 per person.
Shaw House throws open its historical doors on Saturday (Feb 14) with children’s activities and *free entry to the house continuing over the half term holidays and throughout the spring, summer and early autumn seasons.
On Wednesday (February 18), children can make a model of an English Civil War Soldier and then follow a trail around the house to unveil a secret message, cost £1 per child/per adult for this craft activity.
The cafe will also be open offering drinks, sandwiches and homemade cakes.
Shaw House then remains open to the public every weekend until Sunday September 27, from 11am to 4pm and, during school holidays, Monday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm.
There are seven historic rooms to explore within the 16th century house, plus two exhibition rooms and a further children’s activity room.
Visitors can enjoy a complimentary introductory talk and wander through the grounds.
