Hamper surprise for town councillor

Hungerford town councillor, Margaret Wilson, was the winner of a Newbury Building Society charity hamper

HUNGERFORD town councillor Margaret Wilson had something extra to celebrate at Christmas after winning the Newbury Building Society charity hamper.

Newbury Building Society in Hungerford held a festive hamper raffle throughout December to raise money for their branch charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The lucky winner was Mrs Wilson who came in to collect her hamper just before Christmas.

She said: “I'm so pleased. I'm spending Christmas at my daughter's so I'll be taking the hamper with me.”

The raffle, organised by staff member Ella Bright, raised £135.42 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, which will be presented to the charity next year along with other funds raised for them.

Ms Bright said: “As a local building society we try to get involved in the community wherever possible and we hold regular competitions and fund raising events throughout the year for our nominated charity.

“We're grateful to everyone for helping us raise this money for such a good cause.”
