Tipping Point presenter Ben Shephard names Hampshire mum with brain tumour who is campaigning for life-extending treatment from Novocure as a Humble Hero

Penwood mum Nancy Carter-Bradley has come to the attention of GMTV presenter Ben Shephard through her fundraising efforts for the Brain Tumour Charity.

The mother of two has stage three brain cancer and was recently told that the cancer had returned after a period of remission. She has now been given a two-year prognosis.

She is currently campaigning to raise the profile of Optune, a pioneering treatment from Novocure, which would give thousands of patients in the UK with a similar diagnosis to her a chance of prolonging their lives.

She recently had a knockback when Novocure said the treatment will cost her £240k and her friend Claire has set up a crowdfunding page to raise the money needed to give Mrs Carter-Bradley the chance of extended life.

In 24 hours the page has already raised more than £40k and anyone wishing to donate can visit here.

Although the return of the cancer is a huge blow, Mrs Carter-Bradley is determined to do some good. She has an Instagram account documenting her journey – @avocadofairy – which has amassed more than 27k followers.

She has also self-published a children's book about the circle of life, The Toadstool That Wanted To Stay, which has raised more than £7k for the Brain Tumour Charity, which recently appointed Mrs Carter-Bradley as an ambassador.

After being featured in the Newbury Weekly News, Mrs Carter-Bradley's story was picked up by BBC South and GBNews, and rapper Bayo has written a song about her, with all profits going to charity.

Journalist and news presenter Stephen Dixon, who interviewed Mrs Carter-Bradley alongside Anne Diamond, Tweeted an appeal on her behalf, saying that if every one of his followers donated £5 that would get Nancy to her target.

Her most recent accolade came when Mrs Carter-Bradley was surprised by the GMTV presenter Ben Shephard who popped up on a Zoom call she was having with Claire.

Mr Shephard had been told about Nancy's campaigning and fundraising efforts and has hailed her as one of his Humble Heroes of 2022.

Writing on his Instagram account @benshephardofficial, Mr Shephard said 'Nancy is a true Humble Hero', adding 'She's also warm, funny, and likes to swear a lot'.

Mrs Carter-Bradley remains upbeat: "If it's the last thing I ever do, I am going to do everything in my power to try and get this treatment and even better than that, to encourage NICE to reconsider their decision so anyone with brain cancer can receive it, if it's applicable to them.

"Help me be heard! Please share, talk, forward and engage anyone and everyone."
