Hampstead Norreys handbells mysteriously vanish
The black case, measuring 27 by 18 inches, containing six handbells, went missing on Wednesday, April 3, after a practice session of the Hampstead Norreys Handbell Ringers, at the village hall. It is thought that the case was left in the car park.
Police think that the case could have been thrown over a hedge, or into a river, after discovering the contents and the group are hoping that a dog walker, or jogger may spot the black case, described as an old-fashioned suitcase and hand it in, or let them know.
The handbell ringers are desperate to find the missing bells, which are around 12 years old and were made in Whitechapel, London. Without the bells, proper practice is difficult and the group will be unable to fulfil forthcoming engagements.
The group plays at the Hungerford Extravaganza and performs for friendship and elderly groups, where the audience are encouraged to join in and play the handbells. They are gearing up for the Guildford Festival in October.
If any eagle-eyed Newbury Weekly News readers can shed light on the whereabouts of the missing handbells, Hampstead Norreys Handbell Ringers would be delighted to hear from them, telephone 0758 726 9340.
