Newbury firefighters tackle fire in chimney due to wood burning stove
NEWBURY firefighters tackled a chimney blaze in Hamstead Marshall this morning (Fri).
According to Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Nicole Targett, one fire engine and five firefighters were called at 7.36am to a chimney fire at Craven Hill, off Park Lane, Castle Mounds End, Hamstead Marshall.
The fire was started after a wood burning stove caught the chimney.
No-one was hurt and the extent of any damage is not known.
A Land Rover from the fire services' headquarters was also in attendance at the scene.
Police and ambulance services did not attend.
Firefighters from Dee Road in Reading were sent to provide cover at Newbury fire station during the incident.
The incident was closed at 8.29am.
