THIS was the sight that greeted Hungerford residents on Thursday morning, October 19.

A Newburytoday.co.uk reader said: “Looks like hare coursers were out last night, lamping.

“My sons took this photo at 5.30am this morning.

“It at the top of Hungerford High Street on the A339 by the new housing estate.”

The bloodied corpses of several hares were left, draped, across the road sign.

Hare coursing is the illegal pursuit of hares with greyhounds or other dogs.

The practice was banned in the UK by the Hunting Act 2004.

Hare coursing gangs sometimes film the chase so that it can be played later and the outcome gambled upon.

Anyone convicted of the offence can receive a fine of up to £5,000 by a magistrates’ court.
