Harvest service enjoyed by all at Southby's

More than 100 people, including the mayor and mayoress of Newbury, Anthony Pick and Catherine Kent, gathered at the Southby allotments to celebrate the harvest.
Guests were treated to a performance from the Willows School choir and a traditional service from the Reverend at St Mary’s Greenham, John Clarke.
Mr Clarke said he was very very pleased with how the service had gone. Particularly with the number of people who attended.
“The harvest is about thanking God for all he gives and the allotment is a place where people grow all manner of things so it was an ideal location.
“This isn’t the first time we have held out of the church and it was a risk with the weather but we were very fortunate.”
Produce from the service will go to the West Berkshire Food Bank and Mr Clarke said that people were very aware of the rise in people using food banks across the country.
Also at the service was the chairman of Greenham parish council, Tony Forward, who said: “It was incredible to see such a high volume of people out celebrating. It was very pleasant to attend and the sheer enthusiasm from the Willows choir was amazing.”
