Has time been called on The Swan Inn?
Customers of the Queen’s Arms Hotel at East Garston and The Swan Inn, Great Shefford, will have to find elsewhere for a drink and a meal – at least for the present.
The Queen’s Arms, popular with the racing fraternity, is expected to reopen within weeks but there is no news for The Swan.
East Garston villager Miriam Frankham, who used to work part-time at the Queen’s, said: “They telephoned me on Monday morning to say it was closing temporarily but that it was expected to open again in six weeks.”
However, popular licensee Adam Liddiard is not expected to be behind the bar.
Miriam Frankham added: “I think the owners want a whole new management team in there. It’s a shame because everyone in the Lambourn Valley knows Adam, and he knows everyone.
“I spoke to him briefly and I understand that he will be looking for another pub.”
The Swan has had a chequered history lately, closing and reopening several times in the past few years.
It is currently shut with no sign of activity, and there is no indication of when, or even if, the locals will get their pub back.
