Rumours of a giant on the loose in West Berkshire received a new twist last night as a number of sightings were reported at Snelsmore Common on the outskirts of Newbury. Newbury Weekly News has received images of a curious and shy looking ‘giant’ rumoured to be of John Ever Afraid, The Berkshire Giant. A curious bunch of ragtag campers who call themselves ‘elks’ are believed to have held an event attracting as many as 500 people in the West Berkshire woodland during the summer solstice last night (Wednesday), summoning the spirits of forest animals to come to this mythical giant's aid. . The Summoning was the second major event celebrating The Berkshire Giant, a week of outdoor events managed by the Corn Exchange, Newbury. Following this and the Aldworth Giant Fair the giant is believed to be heading for Newbury town centre where an event ‘John’s Final Footsteps’ is planned on Saturday at 9.45pm.
