Have your say on Racecourse development plans today (Weds)
The money, a condition of the planning permission for the 1,500-home development at The Racecourse Newbury to help mitigate the scheme’s impact on the area, is to be spent to improve pedestrian and cycle routes between the racecourse and the town centre and other parts of Newbury, with around one third of the grant dedicated to improving links to and from the canal towpath.
The meeting is being held by the Local Access Forum and will begin with a walking tour to highlight areas of concern.
The walk will start from the racecourse car park at 10am and will take in Hambridge Lane, the town centre, Victoria Park, Kings Road and the canal towpath.
Members of the Canal and River Trust and the Environment Agency as well as councillors from West Berkshire Council, Greenham Parish Council and Newbury Town Council will also be present for the walk, which is expected to take around two- and-a-half hours.
There will be a break for lunch before the meeting begins at 2pm in the Fred Winter Suite in the Berkshire stand at the racecourse.
