Head of Park House School resigns after a year at the Newbury secondary

THE headteacher of a Newbury secondary school has resigned, after just a year in the post.

Tom Goodenough will leave Park House School, on Andover Road, at the end of August.

The news was announced in a joint letter to parents on Tuesday evening, from the chair and CEO of the Transform Learning Trust, Coleen Jackson and Laura Bromberg.

They said: “We are writing to let you know that Mr Tom Goodenough has resigned from the post of Principal, finishing 31st August, 2021.

“We thank Mr Goodenough for leading the school through one of the most challenging education times in recent history, and wish him well in his future career.”

From September the interim principal will be Damian Crabbe and Lamorna Waddell will be his interim deputy.

Mr Goodenough, who lives in Newbury with his wife and two sons, was announced as the new head in March 2020 and took over from Derek Peaple last September.

Mr Peaple retired after 17 years at the helm of the Newbury school.

The Trust said it was now advertising to fill the post and, in the meantime, would work closely with the school leadership team to ensure a smooth transition at the start of the new academic year.
