Headley schoolboy comes first in national kart contest

Dillon Reed, aged 11, and a pupil at Thorngrove School, won first prize in the Teamsport national karting championships held in Camberley last Tuesday.
He was one of only 15 youngsters, aged between eight and 12, to make it through the qualifying rounds, which were held at 11 tracks across the country.
Dillon said: “I always watched Formula 1 and thought it would be really cool to be a driver, or The Stig.
“It was amazing going past the chequered flag first.
“I was so happy as I didn’t even think I’d make the podium, as there were so many great racers there.
“Standing on the top of the podium with everyone cheering was the most incredible experience of my life.”
As his prize, Dillon received professional racing gear, including a helmet, suit, shoes and gloves, to the value of more than £300, as well as a large trophy.
His father, Mark Reed, who watched Dillon as he scooped the winning title, said that he was extremely proud of his son.
“It was emotional,” he said. “He had a few tears when he came out, and I was struggling to hold it back as well.”
Dillon will now be applying for his karting licence, which will allow him to compete in other competitions.
