Headley schoolgirl first in Olympic Stadium race
Ellie Spark, aged 12, a pupil at the independent Cheam school, was among 1,000 people chosen to run on the track on April 1, courtesy of the charity, Gold Challenge, which works alongside sports bodies including the British Olympic Association.
Ellie, who lives with her family near Baughurst, was very pleased with her win, according to her mother, Kate Spark, despite nerves beforehand.
“She ran against seven people and out of these, three were experienced runners from a club,” said Mrs Spark.
Her daughter, she added, has high hopes of becoming an Olympic athlete and her family, who were among the 20,000 strong crowd, said they were “very proud” of her.
“It was phenomenal and very well run,” added Mrs Spark.
The Gold Challenge event in the Olympic Stadium featured celebrities and athletes competing in a range of events, including 100m sprints, relay races and a Gold Challenge Olympic themed parade
